Unprecedented heat wave incidents in UAE prompts Abu Dhabi government to launch a heat alert in 2024

The Abu Dhabi administration is planning to issue a heat alert in 2024 as a result of the UAE's recent unprecedented heat waves. This is according to a senior official from the leadership of the Abu Dhabi government, who discussed the objective of her department and a few others as part of the capital's Climate Change Strategy on Wednesday at COP 28.

In support of the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the emirate aims to achieve a 22% decrease in carbon emissions by 2027, which is the same as sequestering 500 million trees over a ten-year period.

The Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi (EAD) Secretary General, Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, declared: "To combat climate change, we must all work together. The effects of the worldwide crisis are felt here in the United Arab Emirates, most especially in Abu Dhabi. In the past two years, more people than ever have observed the unanticipated heat waves and sandstorms.

"Environment stewardship has been with us for many decades," she continued. So we are not unfamiliar with this. Due to the environmental consciousness of our founding fathers, several projects have been implemented to address issues such as desertification, climate change, and blue carbon.

Critical industries including energy, infrastructure, health, and the environment will all be strengthened via a variety of tactics to guarantee not just business continuity but also climate resilience and adaptability.
