NewsTo recognise the outstanding accomplishments and contributions made by Emirati women to the development of the country, the UAE will observe "Emirati Women's Day" on Wednesday.
By the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), this year's Emirati Women's Day theme is "We share for tomorrow." It demonstrates the UAE's dedication to a participatory approach to development, incorporating all societal sectors in the realisation of its goal.
According to the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) Gender Inequality Index 2024, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked first in the region and eighth internationally, demonstrating substantial progress towards gender equality. Emirati Women's Day celebrates the nation's achievements in women's emancipation and underscores the need for further progress in this domain.
The UAE has enacted a number of legislation and legislative changes in recent years that address a range of issues pertaining to women's life, such as employment, safety, political involvement, and personal status. The UAE is now more competitive internationally and women's standing has improved as a result of these reforms.
The Gender Balance Strategy 2022-2026, which was established by the UAE two years ago, is based on a clear future vision that seeks to establish the UAE as a global leader in gender balance.
The strategy's four primary pillars and aims are: protection; well-being and quality of life; financial inclusion; economic participation and entrepreneurship; and global leadership and collaborations.
The objective is to go from investigating best practices and correcting gender disparities to marketing the nation as an exporter of excellent gender balancing practices with an emphasis on the post-global competition era.
