NewsThe introduction of a midday break will take place from June 15 to September 15, 2024, according to a statement released by UAE officials on Friday, May 31. For the twentieth year running, work in open-air places and under direct sunlight will be prohibited in the United Arab Emirates between 12.30 and 3.00 pm due to the break.
The authorities will charge any employee who works during the midday break Dh5,000, and if many employees work during the break, the fine may be as high as Dh50,000. The policy does not apply to all positions, according to the authorities. During the lunch break, work on fundamental services such as water supply or power, traffic control, asphalt laying or concrete pouring, and other associated tasks, may go on.
In order for businesses to continue operating during the break, a permit must be requested. It is mandatory for employers to supply items like parasols and spaces with shade to shield workers from direct sunshine. The job sites should include first aid supplies, fans, and plenty drinking water. In order to verify compliance, the ministry will also start field trips to work sites and awareness programs.
