UAE announced reduced work hours for private sector employees during Ramadan

During the holy month of Ramadan, the UAE declared that employees in the private sector will have fewer hours of work. The MoHRE, or Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, said that there will be a two-hour reduction in work hours during the Islamic holy month. In line with the nature of their job and within the constraints of the daily working hours set during the holy month, companies might choose to adopt flexible or remote work schedules.

During Ramadan, private sector workers in the Emirates will work two less hours per day than their usual eight to nine hours. Worker overtime is defined as any hours over the shortened schedule, for which they will receive additional pay. The Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) has released a Hijri calendar, which indicates that Ramadan will probably start on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Both fasting and non-fasting personnel are subject to the working hours, which allows them to participate in cultural events and spiritual pursuits throughout this holy month.

Federal workers' official working hours during the holy month of Ramadan were established by a circular published by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR). All government departments and ministries will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. throughout the Islamic holy month. Working hours on Fridays are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., unless the nature of the work requires an alternative schedule.
