The revitalization of Sharjah's ancient Al Hira village, which dates back four centuries, is promoting cultural tourism. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah recently unveiled the memorial to commemorate the establishment of the town of Al Hira in 1613, the year Al Qawasim clan first came in the coastal enclave. Sheikh Sultan also opened the residence of Sultan bin Abdullah bin Majid Al Owais which was renovated into a 900-sq metre Al Hira Literary Majlis.
Reviving the homes of Sultan bin Abdullah bin Majid Al Owais, Hamid Khalaf Bu Khasrah, and Khalifa Sultan Al Suwaidi is another part of the endeavour to revitalise Al Hira's old town.
Al Hira is regarded as "a centre for the development of the strong Nabati poetry tradition in the United Arab Emirates." Al Hira hosted literary discussions, talks, and poetry groups.It was at the 20th Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival when Sheikh Sultan saw the world premiere of the drama "Al Hira Majlis" during his visit to Al Hira.
Written by Sheikh Sultan and published by Al Qasimi Publications, the drama, which is being presented by the Sharjah National Theatre group, chronicles the history of Al Hira and the movement of the Al Qawasim clan.
History claims that the inhabitants of Al Hira were renowned for their bravery, kindness, and prosperity. They were drawn to the arts, sciences, and literature, and among them were a number of very smart individuals who were also excellent authors, poets, and philosophers.
The most recent endeavour in Sharjah's push to promote tourism-related initiatives is the revitalization of Al Hira. The longest beach in Sharjah, Al Hira Beach, was set to be developed, according to a 2022 announcement made by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority.
