May 26 and 27 (Sunday and Monday) see the cancellation of several flights from the United Arab Emirates to India.
In response to Cyclone Remal's impact, the Indian Kolkata Airport Authority decided to halt all flight operations for 21 hours, from 12 a.m. on May 26 until 9 a.m. on May 27.
Unfavorable weather has forced Etihad Airways to cancel its flight EY256 on Sunday, May 26, from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Kolkata Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU), as well as its return flight, EY257.
Kolkata to Dubai flights have also been impacted. The cancellation of flights EK 572/573 on May 26 and EK 570/571 on May 27 has been verified by an Emirates representative.
Due to a delay, the Sunday flight FZ 461/462 between Dubai International (DXB) and CCU is now scheduled to operate on Monday, May 27.
A strong cyclone warning has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Bangladesh's coastal regions and northeastern India.
It is predicted that the cyclone would make landfall on Bangladesh's coastal districts and West Bengal at midnight on May 26. It is expected to have a major effect on West Bengal's coastal region, which includes Kolkata.
Inspector Zaheer Abbas of the National Disaster Response Force, however, reassured that they are ready for the cyclone.
