The Ras Al Khaimah Police will impose severe fines for careless driving, including the impoundment of automobiles, starting on March 1. For instance, if a car is seen racing on the road, it would be seized for three months (90 days) and the owner will need to pay Dh10,000 to get it back. A car that is paraded around tourist locations in a way that puts people's lives in jeopardy faces a four-month (120-day) detention period and a Dh10,000 release cost. This comes after the RAK Executive Council decided to increase the severity of the sanctions for moving infractions.
The RAK Police Chief, Maj Gen Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, has announced further infractions and punishments, which include:
- Taking part in a parade without authorization: The car will be seized and held for a period of 15 to 120 days, with a release cost of Dh1,000 to Dh10,000.
- Driving while intoxicated or driving with a fictitious licence plate: 120 days of imprisonment and a Dh20,000 release cost.
- Modifications: 60 days of impoundment and a Dh5,000 release cost.
- Driving vehicles in a condition that causes damage to environment or tourist areas: Impoundment of 30 days, release fee of Dh 3,000. If the violation is repeated within a year, the vehicle will be impounded for 60 days with a release fee of Dh6,000 .
- Riding a leisure bike in an illegal place is punishable by a 90-day impoundment and a Dh3,000 release fee. If the infraction is committed again within a year, there will be a Dh6,000 release charge and a 120-day imprisonment period.
