President issues a law regulating rehabilitation and correctional centres in Abu Dhabi

NewsIn his position as Abu Dhabi's ruler, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has signed legislation governing rehabilitation and prison facilities. The legislation specifies the main guidelines for Abu Dhabi's correctional and rehabilitation facilities, guaranteeing the defence of prisoners' rights and the provision of appropriate social and cultural rehabilitation. The bill states that Abu Dhabi's penal and penitentiary facilities would become rehabilitation and correctional centres.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department oversees the functions and responsibilities of rehabilitation and correctional centres, which include accepting detainees, determining the proper duty of care, and educating inmates about their obligations and anticipated conduct.
In addition, centres offer education and professional training possibilities, health and social care services to prisoners, and rehabilitation activities designed to help them reintegrate into society as contributing members.
