The Executive Council of Dubai declared last week that by 2030, there would be 96 stations (140 km) on the Dubai Metro, up from the existing 64 stations (84 km). By 2040, there will be 140 stations (228 km) on the Dubai Metro.
The plan's objectives are "to increase the diversity of residential, commercial, office, and service spaces around the Metro, as well as to boost populations around stations."
According to Dr. Mostafa Al Dah, an Emirati traffic safety expert, the emirate's traffic problems may be resolved by establishing 20-minute cities.
