New service launched allowing marriage contracts to be delivered instantly through text messages

A new service has been launched by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) enables marriage contracts to be sent instantaneously via authorised electronic channels including text messaging. Spouses receive the digital contract right away once the officiant ends and digitally authenticates the marriage session, marking a first-of-its-kind innovation.

The ADJD began processing digital marriage contracts in October 2022 and has since processed around 7,000 of them, expediting the entire process using electronic means, including video conferencing for virtual marriage sessions. A digital signature can be used to distribute the finalised contract via formal means.

As the Undersecretary of ADJD, Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, highlighted this service as evidence of the department's dedication to excellence in Abu Dhabi's judicial and notarial sectors. This is in line with the vision of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of ADJD, which is to improve Abu Dhabi's judicial framework internationally.
