NewsIn Sharjah, a new canal project has been started that would connect the creek to Khalid Lake and the open sea. The 850-meter-long Al Layyah Canal was built with the intention of enhancing water quality and augmenting water flow from the Arabian Gulf into the Khan and Khalid Lakes.
The Sharjah ruler, Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi, examined the canal's development, which includes the building of a promenade, a water canal, a breakwater, and two major bridges.
When the 320-meter-long breakwater that will shield the canal from severe weather was being constructed, tests were carried out and results were validated.
A variety of facilities and services meeting social, commercial, and recreational purposes will also be available along the canal.
The construction of a new shoreline with an Islamic architectural character that complements the architecture style of government buildings and the Jubail Market building across from the canal is the next stage of the project.
