Mediclinic City Hospital becomes the first private hospital in the UAE to receive the prestigious Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative certification

Following five days of rigorous audits by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP), Mediclinic City Hospital has become the first private hospital in the UAE to receive the prestigious Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI) certification.

The Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI) is overseen by MOHAP for the United Arab Emirates and was started by the World Health Organisation in 2011. The goal of the effort is to make patient safety procedures more widely known and easier to use in healthcare settings. It offers a great framework that hospitals may use to set up a patient safety improvement process. This process consists of 140 safety criteria divided into five primary categories.

The Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI) provides patients and healthcare institutions with several advantages, including:

  • Enhanced Patient Safety: Improving patient safety is the PSFHI's main objective. Hospitals can lower the number of infections, adverse events, and medical mistakes by putting conventional safety procedures in place.
  • Enhancement of Quality: Putting patient safety procedures into action improves the general standard of treatment. Hospitals taking part in the project concentrate on best practices and standards based on evidence.
  • Standardised Practices: Hospitals must follow a set of harmonised standards provided by the project. This uniformity guarantees that patient safety procedures are implemented consistently in various healthcare environments.
  • Collaboration: Hospital administrators, physicians, and patients are encouraged to work together by the PSFHI. Hospitals may foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement by including all relevant parties.
  • Accreditation and Recognition: Hospitals that fulfil PSFHI requirements are granted accreditation and recognition. This improves their standing and shows that they are dedicated to patient safety.
  • Lower Healthcare Costs: Adverse events, hospital-acquired infections, and readmissions are all decreased when patient safety is increased. Thus, the expense of healthcare is reduced.
