NewsChess may soon be introduced in a number of Sharjah schools, as the emirate is encouraging kids to play the game in an effort to find new talent.
Working with the UAE Chess Federation, the largest chess club in the world, Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, aims to increase interest in the game among students and schools around the emirate.
Sheikh Dr. Khalid emphasized that increasing the quantity of chess clubs will aid in the sport's promotion. There is already a dedicated chess club in the emirate for both men and women.
The Academy hosts seasonal competitions that concentrate on honing skills for various age groups.
From November 7 to November 17, 2024, Sharjah will play host to the Arab Individual Chess Championship for both men and women, as well as the Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship.
Three combined championships employing three different playing systems—classical, fast, and blitz—will be held throughout the event. The Sharjah Cultural & Chess Club, which has held multiple world championships in the past, will serve as the event's host.
The club hopes to have 22 nations that are members of the Arab Chess Federation participate.
