'GigaFarm' capable of replacing 1 per cent of the UAE's food imports to come in Dubais Food Tech Valley

A 'GigaFarm' in Dubai’s Food Tech Valley, that can replace 1% of the UAE’s food imports has been planned. The initiative, a first in the world, will have six complimentary technologies powering a waste-to-value ecosystem to maximise resource efficiency and decarbonize food production.

At COP28, Food Tech Valley and ReFarm inked a contract to begin building the 900,000-square-foot plant. It will have the capacity to grow up to 3,000 tonnes of produce a year when the farm is completed in 2026 and recycle over 50,000 tonnes of food waste.

This bolsters the UAE's efforts to decarbonize food production and substitute locally produced goods for 1% of the nation's fresh produce imports.
