Dubai's RTA is set to construct 762 public bus shelters in strategic locations

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai plans to build 762 public bus shelters at key points across the city. The project plan states that all shelters must be finished by 2025. RTA is investigating the possibility of building several shelters on a trial basis using 3D printing technology.

The bus shelters, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, are a component of the organization's endeavours to enhance customer satisfaction and public transportation services.

He said that the authority will keep moving forward with such projects in an effort to enhance public transport, saying that the shelters are a further step towards improving mobility and the total number of people using public transit in the city.

Based on the volume of passengers at each station, RTA has divided the bus shelters into four tiers:

  • Main stop which will be serving over 750 passengers daily
  • Secondary stop which will serve 250 to 750 passengers daily
  • Primary stop that will serve 100 to 250 passengers daily
  • Pick-up/drop-off station which is used by up to 100 passengers daily

There will be air conditioning in part of the shelter at major stations. Every shelter will include a covered outside space for advertising. They will also include information screens that provide timetables, pick-up times, bus routes, and other details about passengers as well as pertinent services.
