Dubai's Metro service to increase the currently operating 64 stations to 96 stations

The Executive Council of the emirate approved a development plan on Sunday, which would result in the addition of more stations for commuters to use on Dubai's Metro service in the upcoming years. The goal of the expansion is to have 96 stations spread across 140 square kilometres by 2030, up from the 64 stations that are now in operation over 84 square kilometres. By 2040, it aims  to cover 140 stations spread across 228 square kilometres.

Sheikhs Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum are the visionaries behind this scheme. Among the main objectives are raising the percentage of people who use public transport to 45%, cutting carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per person, enhancing public places to promote walking, and expanding the amount of shaded space.

In order to improve economic prospects, link public transportation, and enhance the practicality and efficiency of sustainable transportation, these initiatives are focused on enhancing the regions surrounding Metro stations. Additionally, it will boost the number of commuters, supply services that will support the "20-minute city" concept, and offer incentives to developers.
