News EventDubai Municipality launched the 'Dubai's Best Homegrown Produce Competition' with the goal of involving all societal members and motivating locals to use all available areas for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables in order to become self-sufficient, generate additional revenue, and improve the standard of living in the UAE community.
In order to improve food security and local production in the Emirate of Dubai, the competition also supports local agriculture. Nevertheless, participation in the Best Homegrown Produce Competition is limited to Dubai's residential areas and not permitted for those in apartments.
The first three centres will split the Dh100,000 prize money into three categories: Dh20,000 for the third place winner, Dh30,000 for the second place winner, and Dh50,000 for the first place winner. Dubai Municipal Leaders will also install a medal for Dubai's Best Homegrown Produce in front of the winning garden. In May 2024, the competition winners will be revealed.
The Municipality offered participants a month to sign up for the competition via https://dm.gov.ae. The form, which interested parties may fill out, asks for the owner's personal information, place number, the location of the planted space (courtyard or rooftop), information on the grown products, watering techniques, and a photo of the garden.
The Dubai Municipality will offer a range of facilities and services under the Dubai Farms Programme to assist its own national farmers. In addition to offering competitive pricing for agricultural supplies, equipment, and irrigation systems, it will also control agricultural pests and do the required laboratory testing. Finally, it will create the production agriculture plan for Dubai.
