Dubai and Abu Dhabi climbed the ranks of the world's most liveable cities according to EIU’s 2024 Global Liveability Index

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) 2024 Global Liveability Index, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the glamorous emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have strengthened their positions as regional leaders and risen to the top of the list of world's most livable cities.

The study, which was made public on June 27th, emphasises how much more livable the UAE is becoming. Dubai and Abu Dhabi both achieved a score of 80 or higher out of 100, earning them a place in the highly sought-after "very high" liveability category. For every city, this represents a two-position increase from 2023. Abu Dhabi wins the regional title with a score of 81. 7, placing it 76th in the world. Dubai is just behind Abu Dhabi in 78th place with 80. 8 points.

The EIU attributes Dubai's and Abu Dhabi's rise to consistent expenditures in education and healthcare. These emirates are home to top-notch medical facilities, academic institutions, and research facilities. Both cities also receive great marks for infrastructure and stability. Dubai's well-known global transportation system, which includes an effective metro system and an international airport, greatly raises its ranking. The UAE's capital, Abu Dhabi, gains from the government's emphasis on long-term security and planning.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi's ascent in liveability rankings is indicative of the UAE's larger aspirations to establish itself as a major international centre for innovation, business, and tourism.
