Drivers warned of dangers of leaving their car engines running when stepping out of their vehicles for little tasks

On Saturday, the Abu Dhabi Police warned motorists about the risks associated with leaving their cars running while getting out of them. The police, in an awareness video, highlighted a habit that drivers have when they pull into gas stations, ATMs, or mosques. Many drivers frequently leave their cars running in park mode because they believe tasks like praying, getting a snack, or getting cash out will not take much time.

The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate issued a warning that engaging in such behaviour might result in the vehicle catching fire or being stolen.

A Dh500 fine is imposed for disregarding traffic signs and regulations, according to the police.
