Women account for 50 per cent of seats in FNC, UAE ranks 5th in women's representation

According to the United Nations (UN), the United Arab Emirates is one of the top five countries in the world for having a larger percentage of women in lower or single houses than developed nations.
Women make up half of the seats in the Federal National Council (FNC), placing the nation fifth, behind Andorra.
Twenty of the 40 seats on the Federal National Council (FNC) have been set aside for women.
The United Nations' Women in Politics: 2025 report states that the UAE has a higher percentage of women than both Western and other GCC nations, including New Zealand (45.5%), Sweden (45%) and the United Kingdom (40.5%), France (36.2%), Germany (35.7%), the United States (28.7%), Saudi Arabia (19.9%), Turkiye (19.9%), Japan (15.7%), and India (13.8%).
The report was published in honor of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th.
