NewsSome motorists completely ignore traffic laws and have no consideration for people crossing at specified locations. Pedestrians are at risk because many drivers appear to be focused on items except the road. The Traffic Awareness and Information Branch of the Traffic and Patrols Department of the Umm Al Quwain Police has started an awareness campaign in response to these worries.
The campaign aims to raise traffic awareness among all users of the road, underscore the value of abiding by the rules of the road, and highlight pedestrians' rights to cross the street safely.
The General Command of the Police of Umm Al Quwain's policy, which seeks to execute numerous traffic awareness programmes, is aligned with this campaign, according to Colonel Khaled Ali Muhammad Bouaseiba, Director of Traffic Administration and Patrols.
The main objective of the campaign is to inform pedestrians of the rules of the road and their rights when crossing them. In addition to urging pedestrians to cross roadways in authorised places for their safety, traffic patrols will stress the necessity of giving pedestrians the right-of-way.
Article 69 of the traffic legislation, which stipulates that pedestrians have priority in places designated for crossing, was cited by Colonel Bouaseiba. Penalties will be imposed on anyone who violates this legislation. Six points are added to the driver's licence and a fine of Dh500 are imposed for breaking this legislation.
Particularly in commercial and industrial locations, it has been noted that some automobiles do not come to a complete stop at authorised pedestrian crossings.
The Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority also reminded cars to yield to pedestrians in a social media post, and pedestrians should be sure to cross the road only at approved crossings.
In order to secure their safety and the safety of those around them, Colonel Bouaseiba advised all motorists and pedestrians to cooperate with the police and abide by traffic laws. He was grateful for the community's support in putting the traffic safety idea into practise, as well as the collaboration of the traffic safety authorities.
