New regulation on fishing; Fishermen in Kalba are allowed to pass only through designated routes to reach their fishing spots

The new fishing restrictions that were released on Wednesday enable fishermen in Kalba to access their fishing places only by means of approved routes; they are not permitted to travel via regions that are restricted. The Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, issued Administrative Resolution No. (2) of 2024 AD, which regulated some fishing laws in Kalba.

According to the ruling, in order to get to the fishing locations in Kalba, fisherman are only permitted to travel through specific regions. They are not permitted to fish in any of the places marked by floating signs (buoys), which ban fishing. It is also forbidden for fishermen to sell or export their catch outside of Kalba. However, the new rules let them to sell and exhibit them at the city's marketplaces.

The amended laws stipulate that fishermen would get compensation if the Environment and Protected Areas Authority confiscates their equipment. Additionally, the rule states that they would get payment for the time they were unemployed. The judgement also states that a special committee will be established to research and recommend fair compensation for fishermen who are hurt, and that proposal will be presented for approval.

The chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Major General Saif Mohammad Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, and Muhammad bin Shahraan, President of the Kalba Fishermen's Association, are among the committee members.
