The UAE's first commercial vertiport for flying taxis has been named Dubai International Vertiport (DXV). This was revealed on Thursday after officials verified that its design was approved.
A dedicated region for the takeoff, landing, and servicing of flying taxis, which are expected to begin operations in 2026, DXV is named because its proximity to Dubai International Airport (DXB).
Under the recently created UAE Vertiport Regulations, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) stated on Thursday that it has approved the technical design of DXV, the first facility to do so.
With this approval, Skyports Infrastructure (Skyports) can proceed with the facility's development.
Skyports is working with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Joby Aviation to establish an initial air taxi infrastructure network, of which DXV is the first of four locations.
The 3,100-square-meter area designated for flying taxi takeoff and landing close to Dubai Airport will also feature a separate passenger area, security protocols, and electric charging stations. Each year, DXV will be able to accommodate 170,000 passengers and 42,000 landings.
