NewsEmirates airline will mandate a mobile boarding pass rather than a printed paper version for travellers leaving from Dubai International Airport (DXB), beginning May 15.
A traveller has to provide a boarding card after checking in at the airport in order to board the plane.
Passengers registering at DXB Terminal 3 will receive their mobile boarding pass through email or SMS, according to Emirates. Online check-in passengers have the option of retrieving their boarding pass from the convenient Emirates App or loading it into their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
If passengers don't have a mobile device, they can request to print a boarding pass at the check-in desk. Passengers can also request airline agents at check-in counters to print the boarding pass if phone went dead, or there’s system breakdown, glitch, message delivery delay, or inability to access WIFI, network or data package.
Travellers have to simply show the boarding pass from their smartphone and Emirates agents and airport staff will scan the QR code on the mobile boarding pass.
a physical boarding pass has to be printed by some passengers who for instance are travelling with infants, unaccompanied minors, passengers requiring special assistance, passengers with onward flights on other airlines, and also for all those passengers travelling on flights to the US.
Emirates is implementing mobile boarding pass as a measure to reduce paper waste while simultaneously offering a convenient and speedy digitised check-in experience for passengers departing Dubai. According to Emirates, this programme also lowers the possibility that boarding cards would be forgotten or lost, offering travellers peace of mind when travelling.
The mobile boarding pass can be used at Dubai Duty Free and security check also.
Millions of travellers have already benefited from the ease of trips made possible by technology. In addition to easy check-in and itinerary management, Emirates claims that users of the airline's app can access digital menus beforehand and spend time creating a playlist of their favourite shows, songs, and movies that are available on ice (Emirates inflight entertainment), which can be synced on the app.
At Dubai International Airport, registered travellers may also take advantage of a smooth travel experience by using biometric devices or smart gates to pass through various airport stations.
Residents of the UAE can sign up to utilise the Smart Gates at Emirates Terminal 3 to expedite the immigration process whenever they visit Dubai. GCC nations or tourists who qualify for visa on arrival can pass through the Smart Gates with a biometric passport, while UAE citizens and residents can use their passport, boarding pass, or a valid UAE ID.
