Dubai Maritime Authority has issued new regulations and requirements for renting jet skis and watercraft
15 May 2023
NewsNew guidelines and standards has been published by the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) for businesses and people renting jet skis and other watercraft for water activities.
The authorities mandated the installation of tracking and remote-control devices on all rental firms' jet skis and watercraft under Circular No. 13 of the Year 2023, which was released on May 11.
Companies were instructed to programme the jet skis in compliance with the limited speed zones by the newly constituted body, which regulates, coordinates, and oversees all areas of the emirate's marine industry.
The authority said that instructors must possess a certificate to safely operate personal watercraft intended for water sports. The Dubai Maritime Authority would oversee issuing the licence.
To avoid fines, all businesses must adhere to the new rules by October 31, 2023.
It said that "the authority shall take all necessary actions pursuant to the penalties and fines in case of failure to comply with the above, after the deadline."
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, enacted Law No. 3 of 2023 on the Dubai Maritime Authority, which gives the DMA the responsibility of enacting new rules that enhance the industry and adopt international standards. The new rule, which took effect on May 1, 2023, will give the DMA a precise grasp of regional sea container fees and related practices based on data.
The DMA released Directive No. 1 of 2023 earlier this month on the transparency of local sea container prices in Dubai. This directive requires all service providers to submit their local sea container charges to the DMA via the safe Dubai Trade Single Window Portal.
It is forbidden for all service providers to raise their current sea container prices in any way. Provided that the increase excludes any fees or sums for the customer's account, a service provider may raise its sea container fees only to reflect new or higher authority, Port Operator, or government costs.
