Dubai Building Code - Accessibility for People of Determination; RTA has announced the completion of 82 per cent of retrofitting buildings and facilities

NewsThe "Dubai Building Code - Accessibility for People of Determination" has been implemented in 82% of buildings and facilities, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Director of Building and Facilities for the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector at RTA is Abdul Rahman Al Janahi.
"The Building and Facilities Department retrofitted a number of locations during the project's first and second phases, which were just recently finished. These included the RTA Head Office, Customer Happiness Centres in Umm Ramool, Deira, and Al Barsha, as well as a number of bus stations at Al Quoz, Ibn Battuta, and Deira City Centre. Along with the old and new Sabkha and Ghubaiba, work also involved retrofitting the multi-level parking terminals at Naif, Al Rigga, and Carlton.
The project includes wheelchair ramps, signs, restrooms, automated doors, and audio additions including a microphone at the front desk to interact with those who have hearing impairments. It also incorporated tactile leading trails both inside and outside for the visually impaired. In addition, he said, there are counters set aside for persons with mobility issues, braille signage, and special smart phones to help people with hearing and vision problems.
In order to complete all of its buildings and facilities in accordance with the 2023 plan, RTA is getting ready to start Phase 3 of retrofitting. According to Al Janahi, this phase also includes bus stations in the Mall of the Emirates, Al Karama, Al Qusais, and Jebel Ali, as well as ticket kiosks at marine transport stations such Al Jaddaf marine transport station.
RTA was recognised for its efforts to upgrade customer satisfaction centres to satisfy accessibility norms and regulations by the Dubai Municipality by receiving the gold designation in the "Accessible for All" category.
Additionally, RTA offers 'Mobile Customer Services' for people with a strong sense of independence in their homes by giving access to employees and customer service representatives via a bus fitted with a lift and an escalator, where customers are welcomed, and their transactions are handled.
