The Rail Engineering Information Digital Platform at Dubai’s RTA has successfully digitised 400,000 Dubai Metro-related documents

The Rail Engineering Information Digital Platform at Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully digitised 400,000 Dubai Metro-related documents and registered 600,000 digital asset IDs for the Metro's Red and Green lines assets in 2022. As a result, decision-making is streamlined, and engineering procedures are automated through digitalisation.

The Rail Engineering Information Digital Platform is a Rail Agency-specific programme that is used to manage Dubai Metro's data and papers. In addition, the platform creates digital space for the most relevant partners to connect. The platform's primary purpose is to maintain the consistency and correctness of information while preventing mistakes that may occur during manual data storage and consumption operations.

The RTA was eager to connect the digital platform to the Rail Agency's maintenance system. This connection prevents assets from being registered in the maintenance system until all phases of reviewing the description and related data via the digital platform have been completed, assuring maximum information correctness. The digital platform also provides a connection for each asset registered in the maintenance system, which allows system users to see recorded and updated asset information on the digital platform via the link.

The platform also specifies the criteria and requirements for updates to the registered lists of asset makers and replacement parts suppliers. Furthermore, the platform correlates each asset with its location and the engineering documentation that go with it. It performs critical tasks such as asset data verification prior to registration, document inspection (both external and internal), and engineering information requisition. It also examines the monthly report of the operator.

The platform is critical in automating the management of engineering changes by ensuring information about these changes and developing relationships between the components that are changing. It has made it easier to connect engineering change requests and operator reports on these modifications, boosting openness in engineering transactions and speeding decision-making.

The RTA runs seminars to instruct beneficiaries on how to use the platform and issues technical guides based on best practises from across the world. It is continually committed to using AI and leveraging its enormous data storage in order to design smart mobility and promote transportation efficiency.
