The construction of the 3D-printed residential villa has begun in Dubai

According to reports, Dubai has begun the construction of the 3D-printed residential villa. The Dubai Municipality announced the first construction licence for a private residence built with 3D printing technology. The mansion in Dubai's Al Awir 1 district will be printed in a single session, according to the city authorities.

"The four-meter-high structure will be printed in a single session, and the villa construction work that began recently will be part of a global project that is unprecedented." The home is planned to be finished by October 2023 and will be constructed completely of locally produced concrete, according to the municipality.

These processes complement Dubai's aims and the goals of the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy 2030. The strategy intends to raise the percentage of 3D-printed structures deployed in the Emirate to a minimum of 25% by 2030. "Dubai Municipality has issued the emirate's first construction licence for a private residence built with 3D-printing technology," said Mariam Al Muhairi, interim CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency. The goal of this initiative is to encourage contractors, engineers, investors, and real estate developers to accept and utilise technology in their construction processes.

In addition, the Municipality provides assistance and facilities to monitor and control the use of this innovative technology in building and construction, in accordance with the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy and Decree No. (24) of 2021 Regulating the Use of Three-dimensional Printing in Construction Works in the Emirate of Dubai, which aims to increase the percentage of buildings implemented and printed using 3D technology by at least 25% by 2030."

The use of 3D-printed construction achieves a variety of economic and environmental benefits, such as lower construction costs and shorter construction time by shortening the supply chain for construction work, ease of construction of complex shapes structures, the use of sustainable raw materials and recycled materials in construction, and environmental preservation by reducing the proportion of tailings produced by construction work. 3D printing technology is faster and more precise than traditional techniques of building since it does not require a large number of employees on site.

Last year, Dubai Municipality launched a number of technical activities specialised in 3D printing technology, including construction engineering consultancy activity, construction contracting activity, and construction concrete manufacturing using this technology. The workplace of the Future, Dubai's first 3D-printed fully functional workplace, launched in May 2016. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the one-of-a-kind structure on the grounds of the Emirates Towers. It is a Guinness World Record holder for the world's first 3D-printed commercial building and houses the Dubai Future Foundation's office. Three years later, Dubai unveiled the world's second and largest 3D-printed structure.

The Dubai Municipality's two-story skyscraper set a Guinness World Record for the largest 3D printed construction in the world in terms of volume. It is utilised as a Dubai Municipality Innovation Centre and is located in Al Warsan.
