Salik has stated that it will implement a new toll gate pricing structure by the end of January. Dubai's electronic toll gate system will soon transition to dynamic pricing as part of attempts to reduce traffic congestion on the city's major roadways.
Prices are now fixed at a flat fee of Dhs4 each admission, but will change to a variable pricing scheme on Friday, January 31.
This new approach is expected to alter again during the month of Ramadan in Dubai. This year, Ramadan should start on either Friday, February 28 or Saturday, March 1.
The toll gate operator announced on Friday, January 17, that the new rate will be slightly tweaked to suit people who fast.
Toll prices and schedule will be adjusted somewhat for individuals who break their fast at dusk for Iftar and eat Suhoor before morning.
Between 2am and 7am, drivers passing through any of the ten Salik toll gates will not be charged. This will allow Ramadan observants to participate in sunrise prayers without paying toll fees.
This is a minor change from the new, more comprehensive structure that will not charge drivers who pass through gates between 1am and 6am.
There will also be a minor reduction during the morning rush hour, when drivers will be charged Dhs4 rather than Dhs6 between 7am and 9am.
However, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., cars will have to pay Dhs6 to pass through the Salik gates. On Sunday, the peak hour cost will be reduced to Dhs4.
