With the new "Salama" app, parents in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), can now follow their kids' school commutes. In an attempt to increase school bus safety, the Department of Municipalities and Transport's (DMT) Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in partnership with the Department of Education and Knowledge has released the smartphone app. Real-time information about school bus journeys, arrival and departure times, student attendance, and expected arrival times is provided via the app.
In addition, it gives parents the ability to speak with bus operators and supervisors directly by providing information on drivers and supervisors. Schools in Abu Dhabi, including private, public, and charter schools, will have access to the Salama app. Both iOS and Android users may download the Salama app. Parents who have registered their Emirates ID number with the school can download it and use it to log in.
The ITC is urging the public and parents to report any inappropriate conduct on the part of school bus drivers and to contact the Service Support Centre at 800850 with any criticism, particularly regarding safety.
