Premium licence plates were put up for public sale in Dubai, raising close to Dh50 million. The highest expensive plate (AA70) that was auctioned off over the weekend brought in Dh3.82 million.
At least eight of the top ten most expensive licence plates in the world have been sold in the UAE, demonstrating the popularity of these auctions there.
X 7777, which sold for Dh3.80 million, followed by Z 43, Dh2.85 million, Y 96, Dh2.66 million, and S 888, Dh2.3 million. The amount raised on the first auction earlier this year increased by 30% on that day, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
At the auction, the RTA offered 90 specialty plates with two, three, four, and five numbers.
