Ministry of Economy announces a temporary suspension of the export and re-export of all rice varieties for four months
29 Jul 2023
NewsThe Ministry of Economy has issued a four-month temporary ban of all rice types export and re-export beginning, July 28, 2023, to ensure enough supply in the domestic market. The decision was made in response to Ministerial Resolution No. (120) of 2023, and it applies to rice imported into the nation after July 20, 2023.
Husked rice (pink and brown rice), totally or partially milled rice, whether anointed and polished, and crushed rice are all prohibited under the Harmonised System code of the Common Customs Tariff (1006). These regulations apply to all rice products, even those manufactured in free zones.
Companies wishing to export or re-export these rice types must apply to the Ministry of Economy for an export permission, which must be accompanied by required documentation verifying shipment data in terms of origin, transaction date, and any other restrictions imposed by the Ministry.
Firms intending to export or re-export non-Indian rice kinds and products must also apply to the Ministry of Economy. Similarly, their applications must be accompanied by the documentation required to confirm the origin of the consignment designated for export. The Ministry emphasised that once approved, the export licence will be valid for 30 days. To expedite customs processes for the exporting consignment, these permits must be presented to the relevant customs agency.
Applications can be sent electronically to [email protected] or in person to the Ministry of Economy's offices. The Ministry stressed that the prohibition might be automatically prolonged unless a decision to lift it is published.
