Marine wildlife rescue ambulances launched in Abu Dhabi dedicated to swift response and rescue operations for marine wildlife across UAE

In Abu Dhabi, the first marine wildlife rescue ambulances have recently been introduced. It is a project of the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Centre on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Its goal is to provide quick reaction and rescue operations for marine animals under the direction of EAD across the United Arab Emirates.

The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Centre, which is the largest research, rescue, rehabilitation, and return centre in the area, is almost 9,000 square metres in size and has two marine wildlife rescue ambulances, a veterinary hospital, and cutting-edge infrastructure and equipment.

The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Centre, which leverages SeaWorld's heritage in marine animal rescue, offers the UAE and the surrounding area approximately 60 years of experience, solidifying its place in one of the world's largest networks of marine animal rescue, which has conducted over 40,000 rescues.

The ambulances are purposefully kept roomy and devoid of superfluous built-in equipment. This thoughtful design decision guarantees adaptability, allowing the rescue of different animal species without regard to size limitations. Big animals, such as dugongs and dolphins, may be transported securely since their movement reduces the chance of harm.

Specialised animal-specific equipment that is adapted to each rescue mission's requirements is carried by the vehicles to increase their versatility. Stretchers for dolphins and dugongs, water sprayers, and pre-filled "Go bags" with necessary supplies including tubes, towels, funnels, hydration equipment, and gloves are among them. Additionally, the rescue crews bring emergency reaction packs with equipment for stabilisation. The trucks are equipped with a detachable foam lining that offers essential comfort and support to animals while they are being transported. The safety and well-being of the priceless aquatic creatures are guaranteed by this design's simplicity.

When called upon for help, the team of marine wildlife rescue specialists from Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Centre and EAD will first evaluate the circumstances and develop a rescue strategy specific to the kind of animal in need. After the plan is shared, the ambulance is outfitted and sent to the rescue site to evaluate the animal's condition and provide basic medical attention. The Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Centre and EAD's marine life specialists will assess the animal's requirements and decide if it requires urgent attention or transportation to the centre after deciding on the best course of care.

The UAE's maritime wildlife rescue ambulances are on call around the clock to provide assistance when needed. The emergency helpline is 800-555.
