NewsThe Dubai Municipality successfully planted more than 185,000 trees in the emirate in 2023 as part of its afforestation effort, with an average of 500 trees planted per day. From 170 hectares in 2022 to 234 hectares after the change, the overall green space grew. Together with the Municipality's parks, the trees were planted in 210 locations, including agricultural projects, natural reserves, major and secondary roadways, and Deira and Bur Dubai.
Through its planting programmes, the Municipality has imported a range of trees, including native species such as Indian jasmine, Sumar, Neem, Olive, Samorova palm, Ghaf and Sidr (which are well-suited to the region's soil salinity conditions), and palm-like trees. Numerous other evergreen species, such Acacia farnesiana, Washingtonia, Bismarckia, Pseudobombax, Poinciana, and Bougainvillaea, have also been included.
The authority is increasing green spaces at bridge junctions, main and subsidiary roadways, and residential and urban areas. Along with improving the visual appeal of the city, improving the quality of the air and soil is another goal of the effort.
The Dubai Municipality's director general, Dawoud Al Hajri, stated that the organization's Green Dubai programme is an ongoing endeavour that "adheres to comprehensive engineering and planning standards." He went on to say that improving general welfare and quality of life is the goal.
