Major roads will be closed on January 7th as runners are to enter the streets for the Dubai Marathon. The exact details of the road closures for the Dubai Marathon are still to be verified, but in recent years, portions of Jumeirah Beach Road from Madinat Jumeirah going north, as well as the portion of Al Wasl Road connecting Umm Suqeim Street, have all been closed.
The Dubai Marathon has three events: a 4km beginners fun run, a 10km category, and a 42.2km road race for both elites and amateurs. Regarding the course, competitors will begin the 42.2 km marathon trail close to Madinat Jumeirah, turn left towards Al Sufouh, go through Dubai College Junction, and then ascend towards the Palm Island entry on the other side of the street. The runners will then turn left at the entrance to Dubai Media City and turn right at the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina traffic lights. They will retrace their route via the Al Sufouh neighbourhood, past the Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel before turning into Jumeirah Beach Road and Madinat Jumeirah.
Competitors will continue running on the left side of Jumeirah Beach Road in the direction of the Creek bridge, turning before they get to the bridge at the intersection of Al-Mahmal Road. After completing the loop, they will retrace their steps via the Madinat Jumeirah intersection and do a second lap along the same path, turning left just after Burj Al Arab. They will then sprint the last 500 metres along Umm Suqeim Road, concluding in front of Dubai Police Academy.
The Dubai Marathon takes place in Dubai every year. The marathon course is flat, renowned for being fast, and attracts runners from all over the world.
It is still possible to register for the event via dubaimarathon.org as the deadline for registrations has been extended to Saturday, January 6.
