The initiative "Create Apps in Dubai" was introduced on Wednesday by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

The establishment of "Create Apps in Dubai," according to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, is part of carrying out the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, to develop programmes that can make Dubai a leader in the global digital industry and usher in a new era characterised by cutting-edge technologies and sciences.

According to him, since the emirate established Dubai Internet City, smart investments in the digital industry have helped it emerge as a significant participant in the world's technological landscape.

As per Sheikh Hamdan the digital transformation sweeping the world and the exponential growth of cutting-edge digital applications and platforms have created a new global competition for technological leadership. Dubai seeks to be at the forefront of this global race by providing a platform for fostering the development of 1,000 highly-skilled UAE nationals whose ideas and innovation will create a vibrant applications sector in Dubai.

With the help of governmental organisations and tech firms, the "Create Apps in Dubai" project, run by the Dubai Chamber for Digital Economy, aims to train a select group of 1,000 UAE citizens in Dubai in collaboration with the private sector. In order to empower and enable these UAE nationals to play significant roles in achieving the nation's digital vision, the initiative will designate priority areas and support development plans. The initiative also aims to support 100 new national projects for the creation of cutting-edge apps that will be made accessible in digital app stores over the following 24 months. It also aims to triple the number of app developers by 2025.

As part of engagements designed to encourage the exchange of ideas between experts, innovators, and developers, Sheikh Hamdan met with developers of apps geared at the global market in the areas of healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, and others. Dubai wants to strengthen its position as a global launchpad for cutting-edge technologies, and one way it does this is by promoting greater sharing of digital and technological expertise.
