NewsADNOC announced on Tuesday that construction on the Middle East's first high-speed hydrogen refuelling station had commenced. The ADNOC-built facility in Masdar City will produce clean hydrogen from water using an electrolyzer fueled by clean grid electricity. When utilised, hydrogen emits no carbon dioxide (CO2) and provides the maximum energy per mass of any fuel, giving cars a greater driving range and faster refuelling periods than battery-powered electric vehicles.
ADNOC has also announced a collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) and Al-Futtaim Motors to test a high-speed hydrogen refuelling station with a fleet of clean hydrogen-powered cars. Toyota and Al Futtaim Motors will deliver a fleet of hydrogen-powered cars as part of the agreement. The pilot initiative will assist ADNOC in understanding how hydrogen with high-speed refuelling may best be utilised in mobility projects to support the UAE's National Hydrogen Strategy, which seeks to place the country among the top hydrogen producers by 2031.
When the station is finished later this year, it will be operated by ADNOC Distribution. A second station in Dubai Golf City will be equipped with a standard hydrogen fueling system. ADNOC has set aside Dh55.1 billion to promote and expedite lower-carbon solutions, including investments in new energy and decarbonisation technology, to cut its carbon intensity by 25% by 2030 and achieve its Net Zero by 2050 goals.
