Authorities in the UAE reminded motorists to drive safely and warned of stiffer penalties for traffic violations

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates cautioned drivers of fines for traffic violations that endanger lives amid rainy and unfavourable weather conditions as torrential rains battered several sections of the nation on Thursday. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recorded precipitation in various amounts around the nation. Several roads have been affected by heavy rainfall, so drivers should drive carefully everywhere in the Emirates.

Police in the United Arab Emirates released safety advice for drivers on Thursday.

The following are some crucial safety advice for drivers:

  • Before starting the trip, it must be ensured that the car's tyres are in good condition by checking them.
  • Verify that the car's windscreen wipers are in proper operating order.
  • When crossing puddles, slow down.
  • Even during the day, use headlights to see well behind cars.
  • Avoid using danger lights while driving and maintain a safe space between other cars.
  • Respect the posted speed limits and pay attention to the informational signs.
  • Steer clear of any distractions while driving.
  • Do not drive across valleys.
  •

The ten weather-related traffic violations and associated fines are listed below:-

  • Capturing images or recordings of rain or fog while operating a vehicle: Dh800 fine, four black points

- Police have often emphasised that drivers should only concentrate on the task at hand: driving. No matter how breathtaking the environment is, they must fight the need to snap a picture or record a video. This is categorised as "distracted driving."

  • Careless driving carries a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and a 60-day suspension.

- Ninety automobiles whose drivers were caught doing stunts in the rain were impounded by the Dubai Police earlier this year. This was just one of several incidents where drivers chose to drive recklessly in bad weather.

  • Fine Dh500 and four black points for driving with hazard lights on.

- When it's cloudy or wet outside, some drivers turn on their danger lights. On the other hand, this creates uncertainty for drivers.

  • Dh500 fine and four black points for driving in the fog without lights
  • Disregarding government directives to avoid driving in the fog: Dh500 fine, four black points

- Certain vehicles are prohibited from moving when bad weather impairs vision; they are usually trucks and buses.

  • Disobedience of a police officer's orders: Dh400 fine, four black points
  • Driving while fleeing from a police officer: Dh800 fine, 12 black points
  • Congregating during wet weather close to dams, flooded regions, and valleys: Dh1,000 fine, six black points

- Without knowing how risky the practise is, many UAE citizens drive to valleys to view or record flooded valleys and dams. These drivers should be discouraged by the increased penalties.

  • Regardless of the degree of danger, entering flooded valleys will result in a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and the seizure of cars for 60 days.

- Some drivers crash into valleys filled with rushing waters from the mountains. Numerous people have been swept away by the powerful currents, taking their automobiles with them.

  • Preventing the appropriate authorities from managing traffic; or ambulance and rescue vehicles in times of emergencies, crises, and rain; in flooded valleys: a Dh1,000 fine, four black points, and the seizure of cars for sixty days.
