On Thursday, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates announced that several mosques will soon receive electric vehicle charging stations. The authority has started an energy efficiency project in mosques in collaboration with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat (Awqaf).
According to a statement from the authority, the action is a part of the ministry's efforts to improve energy efficiency, promote environmental sustainability, and lower emissions from buildings' use of energy. It also helps to improve green mobility efforts and offers an infrastructure that encourages the usage of electric vehicles.
Two private businesses were granted licenses to run EV charging stations earlier this month.
During GITEX Global 2024, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) announced that Tesla and UAEV had been granted the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses for electric car charging stations in Dubai.
