
Driverless taxis would be on Dubai's roads by 2025. Within the next few months, the emirate will begin testing fifty self-driving taxis.
The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai and the Chinese autonomous ride-hailing service Apollo Go reached an agreement to conduct the experiment, which will culminate in a broader public launch of the service the following year.
The latest generation of driverless taxis, the RT6, will begin a trial run in Dubai this year. 40 sensors and detectors are installed in these cars to guarantee the greatest levels of automation and security. In the next three years, the Chinese company already has plans to launch 1,000 self-driving taxis.
By 2030, the RTA in Dubai hopes to have 25% of all journeys made through its public transportation system be autonomous.
