Genome Centre was launched at Dubai Police's General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology

The Genome Centre of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology of the Dubai Police was officially opened today by His Majesty Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. The Dubai Police's technological and scientific leadership is strengthened by this project.

Through the creation of cutting-edge tests in forensic identification, genetics, and metagenomics, the centre is committed to assisting policing efforts. The effort is in line with the UAE's National Genomics Strategy, which aims to create an integrated framework for genomic activities and develop the nation as a centre for scientific research and innovation. Regarding genetic research, this action puts the Dubai Police at the top of all law enforcement organisations globally. His Highness was welcomed by top authorities and Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, during his visit to the Dubai Police Officers Club, where the launch took place.

The Human Genome, Metagenome, Bioinformatics, and Biotechnology areas of the Genome Centre's organisational structure was evaluated by His Highness during the visit. The human genome department performs the analysis of deteriorated materials to ascertain an individual's genetic heritage and molecular autopsy testing. To identify the species or strains of non-human and environmental materials, the Metagenome department specialises in doing so. The parts on bioinformatics and biotechnology focus on applying artificial intelligence to statistically analyse variations based on genetic data.

The force's decision to finance selected professionals and students for specialist genomics education at renowned worldwide institutions supports the establishment of the new facility. His Highness received a briefing on the forensic entomology project of the Dubai Police, the first project of its type in the Middle East to make use of a regional database. As part of building its forensic science capabilities for identifying the causes of death, Dubai Police has developed specific knowledge in this field.

The Genome Centre's forensic entomology project team reached a major milestone when they were able to get crucial forensic results in less than 24 hours. This establishes a new global benchmark, greatly beyond the typical period of 3 to 14 days observed in many nations throughout the world. The Dubai Police's skills have been greatly enhanced by this amazing achievement. The force used data from several geographic and climatic simulations to train professionals and create a scientific database. With these efforts, Dubai Police has mastered five crucial goals: cataloguing regional bug species, researching their life cycles, looking at how geography and climate affect them, monitoring growth rates, and efficiently using this information in actual situations.

During his visit, His Highness also looked at the impressive results of using the "Brain Fingerprint" method of the Dubai Police to numerous criminal cases. When a suspect is exposed to photographs of the crime scene or the instruments used to conduct the crime, the sophisticated system employs a specific equipment to monitor their brainwave activity. The device improves the professionalism and precision of security operations by providing exact insights into the suspect's recall of the incident.

HE Lt. Gen. Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri expressed appreciation for HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed's continued support. In order to maintain safety and security, he stressed Dubai Police's commitment to constantly enhancing its capabilities. He also reaffirmed the UAE's status as a regional and international role model for development and prosperity.
