Sharjah: A new mosque, Sayyida Khadija Mosque, has opened in the Al-Waha area, located in the Al-Ruwaidat suburb along Al Dhaid Road.
The mosque was inaugurated on Monday by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
During the ceremony, he unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of Sayyida Khadija Mosque. Designed in the Fatimid architectural style with modern enhancements, the mosque spans an area of 49,383 square metres. It can accommodate 1,400 men in the main prayer hall, 1,325 worshippers in the outer portico, and 140 women in a designated prayer area.
Facilities at the mosque include a library, a mortuary building, water stations, ablution areas, restrooms, parking for 592 vehicles, and residences for both the imam and muezzin.
The mosque boasts a central dome measuring 10 metres in diameter, two smaller domes each 4.5 metres in diameter, and two minarets rising to a height of 40 metres. Built according to modern environmental standards, the mosque features energy-efficient and water-saving technologies.
