Employees in the UAE can now subscribe to job loss insurance scheme through etisalat by e&

As the deadline for subscription approaches, workers in the UAE may now enrol in the job loss insurance programme through etisalat by e&. This is the second channel this month to be launched for ILOE (Involuntary Loss of Employment) subscriptions. Consumer technology holding company Astra Tech announced earlier this month a strategic alliance with the ILOE insurance pool, which is represented by Dubai Insurance Company, to provide ILOE insurance via the Botim app.

On January 1, 2023, employees in the federal government and the commercial sector were required to purchase job loss insurance. The employees had from January until June to sign up. However, the deadline was extended until October 1, 2023, after which workers who do not register for the programme would be fined Dh400. By sending an SMS to the number 2120, employees in the UAE may sign up for the programme through the country's main telecom services provider. They must type ID, then a space, and finally the Emirates ID number.

In order to avoid fines that will take effect in accordance with the announcement made by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE), Dana Kansou, Manager of Distribution and Strategic Partnerships at Dubai Insurance, which manages the ILOE Insurance pool, advised people to sign up as soon as possible before the deadline expires on October 1, 2023. Employees may now subscribe using the ILOE website and mobile app, MBME and UPAY kiosks, business centres (Tawjeeh and Tasheel), and Al Ansari Exchange branches and mobile app. The subscription began on January 1, 2023, and as of now, there are more than 5 million subscribers.

In addition, any businesses with more than 15 workers that are not registered with MoHRE may enrol on behalf of their staff by sending the necessary documentation to [email protected]. Employees making a base income of at least Dh16,000 can subscribe monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, yearly, or bi-annually for Dh5 plus VAT. Dh10 is due each month from employees whose basic salaries are Dh16,000 or above. Among the five payment choices available to them, they can select one as well. Employees are permitted to enrol in supplemental insurance coverage. The employee will receive cash benefits totalling 60% of their average basic wage for the six months prior to the date of job loss for up to three months per claim.

When a subscriber loses their job, they must file a claim for compensation within 30 days of the loss of their job, provided that their employment was not terminated for disciplinary reasons, they had not resigned, or that their compensation request was not fraudulent. To be eligible, they must have been registered in the scheme for at least 12 consecutive months.
