Dubai has begun awarding contracts for Al Maktoum International, which, when completed, would be the largest airport in the world.
The UAE's vice president, prime minister, and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, gave his approval to the airport, which would have a final capacity of 260 million.
All of Dubai International's (DXB) operations will be moved to Dh128 billion Al Maktoum International (DWC), which would "fully absorb" DXB inside ten years. In a prior press statement, the operator of both airports stated that "DXB will continue to serve as the primary hub to meet the needs of 100 million plus guests."
