Drivers who fail to abide by lane discipline while operating a light vehicle in Dubai face a fine of Dh400
30 May 2023
NewsDrivers who violate lane discipline while operating a light vehicle are subject to a Dh400 fine, says the Dubai Police website. An SMS warning and a link directing them to the information will be sent to the driver. The link will include the specifics of the infraction, such as the kind of crime, time, date, and a photo of the licence plate.
If the motorist is not persuaded of the infraction, they must submit an online application for a fine objection through the Traffic Department of Deira's (Traffic Prosecution) website at https://www.dxbpp.gov.ae/portal/Request.aspx?ID=81&lang=en.
The driver must go to Deira Traffic Department (41 Al Quds St - Al Twar - Al Twar 1 - Dubai) or Al Barsha Traffic Department (Al Quoz - Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 - Dubai) to contest the fine if it is not one of those mentioned in the prosecution webpage.
Drivers could get in touch with the Traffic Prosecution by email [email protected], phone 04/6063915, or in-person to inquire about the status of their application or any modifications. The technology at the 911 call centre for the Dubai Police will not be affected by the changes.
Listed below are four traffic violations, when a driver is fined for 'light vehicle lane discipline':
- Lack of lane discipline - maintain car in the centre of the lane
- Suddenly deviating into the exit lane after failing to stop at the stop line (solid line) when approaching an exit or an intersection
- Jumping the queue to enter a busy lane early and cause traffic congestion
- When the space between the cars is insufficient, people sometimes change lanes in an unsafe manner and try to squeeze in.
The UAE police emphasise how crucial it is to stay in the right or left lane when making a turn at a busy crossroads. Additionally, drivers are cautioned against passing and switching lanes at crossroads. Many exit lanes in Dubai are fitted with radar sensors that may identify drivers that abruptly change lanes. There is no visual flash on these radar devices to let drivers know when they are being ticketed. Key intersections and roads around the emirate are equipped with live cameras, and traffic police personnel at the Command Control Centre keep an eye on the video in real time. Police close down on the vehicle's licence plate and snap three pictures to demonstrate that the driver has broken the law using the footage that was captured. The videos are also kept on file as evidence in case of disagreements.
For the sake of everyone's safety and the efficient flow of traffic on Dubai's roadways, lane discipline must be observed. Drivers have several options for paying the fine in the event of a traffic infraction. This may be done using the Dubai Police mobile app for Android and iOS or the website (https://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae). Drivers must complete the necessary information before paying the fee.
