UAE’s first accredited vocational academy has been launched, aimed at instilling best practices applied in municipal work

The first authorised vocational academy in the UAE is set to open, with the goal of introducing best practises used in municipal operations, according to a statement released by Dubai Municipality. The academy is designed for university graduates and Municipality employees, and it has been approved by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai as well as the National Qualifications Centre at the Ministry of Education. The school will provide globally recognised speciality professional credentials through partnerships with domestic and foreign educational centres and universities.

The academy will also conduct joint research and studies with universities and research centres, provide career counselling programmes to university students who are almost finished with their degrees, train municipal employees locally, regionally, and internationally, and host specialised forums in the field.

The Dubai Municipality's Director General, Dawoud Al Hajri, stated that the establishment of the vocational academy is a testament to the Municipality's dedication to drawing in talent, developing the abilities of its workforce and recent graduates, and providing participants with credentials in a range of disciplines and specialisations within the Municipality. To accomplish its lofty goals, he emphasised the Municipality's desire to foster a culture of sustainable innovation and to support the advancement of cutting-edge solutions. He pointed out that this helps to further increase Dubai's competitiveness and solidify its standing as one of the greatest places in the world to live and work.

A wide range of specialisations and essential operations overseen by Dubai Municipality will be covered by the academy's programmes, including licencing and monitoring of construction activities, digital transformation and GIS, data analysis, strategy, and innovation, management of health and safety, environmental sustainability, preservation of urban heritage and antiquities, sanitation, agriculture, and irrigation equipment.

Numerous professional certificate programmes will be offered in a variety of subjects, including mechatronics in sanitation, irrigation technologies, workplace safety and health management, and manuscript repair and maintenance.

With a variety of programmes offered at the vocational academy, Dubai Municipality gives participants the choice to take courses that are offered in-person or virtually. In addition to the main campus of the vocational academy, Dubai Municipality facilities, and the locations of its suppliers, contractors, and partners, participants can choose to attend courses at other schools, institutes, and universities. Additionally, they have the option of participating virtually via the Learning Experiences Platform (LXP).
