A globe map-inspired archipelago is a construction that Dubai has created off its shore. According to Visit Dubai, The World includes 260 islands overall, divided into seven groupings that each symbolise a distinct continent, and extends over 230 kilometres of shoreline. Visitors can reach the currently accessible islands of Lebanon, Anantara (Argentina), and Heart of Europe by boat in the late afternoon. We take sail for Lebanon in the first installment of a three-part series.
In 2011, The Island became the first tourist site in The World to welcome visitors. The island is about 6km off the Dubai coast. The island has a restaurant, swimming pools, beaches with beautiful sand, and cottages. It includes two beachfronts, one of which provides a complete view of the renowned Dubai skyline. There are both competitive watersports, like kayaking, and recreational beach sports, like volleyball.
The island’s most popular offering is that the property is being rented out exclusively for private events and parties. It also offers a day pass for Dh199 which includes boat transportation, entry, island access like beaches, volleyball court, sunbed, umbrella usage, etc.
The island is not a part of Dubai's utilities system. Every month, about 10,000 gallons of fuel are delivered to the location to run its generators. A total of three boats with a seating capacity of more than 50 are used to ferry visitors to The Island. From 11 a.m., the boats leave Jumeirah One Fishing Harbour every hour.
