Zayed National Museum has announced annual funds of Dh1 million to support research on the UAE’s culture and history

The national museum of the United Arab Emirates, currently under construction on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, has announced a Dh1 million annual fund to support studies into the history and culture of the UAE as well as the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's founding father.

Research on Sheikh Zayed's influence on social, cultural, and economic effect is one of the grants' top goals, along with studies of UAE history and archaeology and the nation's intangible heritage, which includes oral histories of customs, songs, and stories. The awards will also concentrate on the interactions between the UAE and other nations in the Arabian Peninsula and Indian Ocean throughout history.

A new generation of researchers will be given more influence by the financing programme, which intends to support both major and small awards. Applications for awards are accepted through July 15; recipients will be announced in September. For up to three years straight, the financing is extendable.

A panel consisting of representatives from the Zayed National Museum and the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT - Abu Dhabi), as well as outside subject matter experts, will review applications and make decisions based on factors such as the applicant's research methodology, experience, results, and relevance to the museum's mission.

The research fund, according to Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary, DCT - Abu Dhabi, represents the department's dedication to promoting and safeguarding the cultural and history of the United Arab Emirates.

Significant advancements have been made in the construction of the Zayed National Museum, including the completion of its distinctive wing structures. The unique atria are made to resemble a falcon's wings, a representation of the UAE's national history. This is symbolic of how the museum's design is infused with UAE culture and legacy.
