Starting May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer support for iPhones running iOS versions earlier than 15.1.
This change will affect users with older models such as the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, rendering the messaging app unusable on these devices.
Currently, WhatsApp is compatible with iPhones running iOS 12 and later, as well as Android devices with version 5.0 or newer. However, to stay in line with technological advancements, WhatsApp is discontinuing support for outdated operating systems to enhance performance and ensure better compatibility with modern devices.
For iPhone users, only those with older software will be impacted. Devices that can update to iOS 15.1 or newer will remain supported, ensuring uninterrupted access to WhatsApp.
WhatsApp will issue advance notifications to affected users, providing reminders to encourage them to upgrade their devices or update their software where possible. For those on older iPhones, options include upgrading to a newer device or updating to the latest available iOS version.
