Unified pricing structure specified for charging electric vehicles in UAE

A recent cabinet resolution in the UAE has established a uniform price system for charging electric vehicles (EVs) across the nation. According to the updated price schedule, service providers must charge at least Dh1.20 plus VAT per kWh for "express" charging services and Dh0.70 plus VAT per kWh for "slow" charging services.

The Khaleej Times has received a copy of Cabinet decision No. 81, which details the service costs and was released in the Official Gazette on July 8. Although the cabinet resolution specifies that the new consolidated fees will take effect 60 days after they are published in the Official Gazette, it is not immediately obvious when or how they will be assessed.

The government has taken this action to standardise and control the supply of EV charging infrastructure, Right now, there is a broad range of pricing at charging stations; some are even free. The Council of Ministers has also maintained the right to change these fees as needed, adding to, removing from, or making other changes to the fee schedule.

The UAE is promoting sustainable mobility and moving towards a greener economy, and the new pricing structure is a part of that effort.

Last year, the government passed a national program to establish a nationwide network of electric car chargers. A 20% reduction in energy usage in the transportation sector is anticipated as a result of the program.
